The Mylor Theatre at Truro College was the venue on Saturday night for the first installment of Truro Hospital Radio?s 2004 Autumn Concerts.
?Antigua Joe: From Cornwall To The Caribbean? promised to be an enjoyable event, and a great night it certainly was.
The concert, was the first this Autumn in aid of the ?Pound for Sound? campaign, which is aiming to raise ?30,000 to equip and furnish new disabled-accessible studio's for the station at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
The singer, songwriter and percussionist dressed in his Trademark Caribbean style, certainly looked the part and his show lived up to his appearance, with it revolving around the colourful medley of songs, poetry and anecdotes.
The audience got to know Joe as if he was a long lost friend with well written poems like ?Is Right here Me Born?, about the day he was born through to ?The Nutter from Chester?, about a past relationship gone wrong.
Jacalyn Eggett, from Newquay thoroughly enjoyed the concert and wouldn?t mind seeing ?Antigua Joe? perform again at a later date: ?I enjoyed the show because Antigua Joe made the audience feel like part of the Act. By him sharing his personal experiences you felt like you had known for years?.
Performing songs by those who inspire him; Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff to name but a few, you could have mistaken him for the real thing! But also songs by more contemporary artists like Ronan Keating were on offer.
The songs played by ?Antigua Joe? are those that reflect the way of life in the part of the world where he originates and for those who have not heard Calypso songs live, the experience was truly heartwarming.
?Antigua Joe? has released two albums: Big Bamboo 1 and Big Bamboo 2.
